Featured Use Case :: Body Temperature Detection

Monitoring body temperature in an unobtrusive, fast and accurate manner is challenging with products on the market, looking at average temperature readings or often identifying false measurements. Accuracy of standard imaging alone decreased effectiveness due to variables such as open mouths, outside temperatures or third-party objects such as a cup of coffee.

workM8.io Image Intelligence software leverages multi-point analysis multiplexing video and radiometric sensor data to enrich and increase the accuracy of detection abnormalities following the process below.

  1. Identifying pixels: The software firstly looks to identify the most valid points on a human face to take a radiometric measurement. Our machine learning algorithm identifies the eye(s) and then determines the pixel or group of pixels in the corner of the eye for the most accurate measurement. Should the eye be undetectable for any reason workM8.io Image Intelligence algorithms identifies the forehead, nose etc.

  2. Measurement: Once the target area on the face is identified workM8.io uses the high-resolution video image and overlays with the lower resolution radiometric image. Group of pixels which correspond to the target area on the high-resolution image, are used to take an accurate reading.

  3. Decision Making: Standard human body temperature thresholds are predefined in workM8.io, and abnormalities trigger workM8.io workflows which are templated based on your associated business process.

  4. Machine Learning: Through millions of data points, the workM8.io software can identify the eyes, forehead and other vital areas on the human head. workM8.io's Machine Learning is included in the deployed software and continues to learn, taking into account localised environmental factors (heater placement, TV monitors or other heat-emitting hardware). The option to implement the solution with facial recognition for secure workplaces allows workM8 to further learn heat signatures for an individual also improving accuracy.

The solution can operate in a range of environments both heavily control entry gates and swipe card stations as well as the much more challenging environment of high density moving crowds. Imaging processing is completed off-camera with architecture dimensioned to meet peaks in concurrent facial mapping, pixel definition, measurement and workflow initiation.

Data usages are configurable dependant on data connectivity with the option of 4G/5G deployments where WAN/LAN access is unavailable.

workM8.io Camera Service is straightforward to deploy in conjunction with your IT team. Access is required to your enterprise network with public facing IP addressing to the camera or can be deployed as a standalone unit together with wireless (4g) connectivity router.

workM8.io workflows from triggered events are all initiated from the workM8.io cloud service without any need for additional infrastructure.

Advanced Scenario, Access Control enhancements with workM8.io

Integrating to access control systems or building management systems can allow for workM8.io workflows to have physical controls over access when a person with high body temperatures are detected.

During normal operations access gates are allowed to open and closed based on normal operating procedures.

When a high body temperature body reading event is detected, gates can be sent a signal to lock and not permit access. With gates closed, workM8.io workflows can also trigger parallel notifications to the workM8.io companion app to push an incident event digital form to record additional information such as manual temperature readings or isolation instructions.

All events are stored in the workM8.io portal for auditing purposes.
